Mytchett Children’s Centre Update June 2019

****NOTICE TO FAMILIES AND SERVICE USERS****

At the beginning of this year it was confirmed that services would no longer be offered to families through Mytchett Children’s Centre. This was following a consultation on Family Resilience and Children’s Centres across Surrey. This consultation outlined the proposal to remodel Children’s Centres to Family Centres and as part of this remodelling, close Surrey’s 58 Children’s Centres and open fewer Family Centres and satellite sites, based in areas identified as having high levels of deprivation.

The Family Centre for the Surrey Heath area will be based at the Old Dean Youth Centre. Family Centres will support families to access other universal services through sign posting. This means that services such as health, midwifery, citizen's advice and support with housing and employment, will continue from a range of community buildings and Family Centres. Please see this for further information on Family Centres - https://www.surreycc.gov.uk/people-and-community/families/support-and-advice/family-centres/locations

To prepare for the closure of Mytchett Children’s Centre, it has been confirmed that the Universal Services (Play & Learn sessions, New Mums, Music groups etc.) will end in July 2019. We will still hold our Kite Summer Stay & Play Sessions in August.  We will continue to provide Outreach support for the families we are currently working with until the end of September - at this time they will be transferred over to the new Family Centre or signposted to other support appropriate to their level of need.

All staff at Mytchett Children’s Centre have been incredibly proud to serve the families of Mytchett, Deepcut and Frimley Green since our opening in 2010. We are looking forward to celebrating all the amazing support and relationships that have been nurtured over the years at our Grand Finale on August 10th.  We will also have information and advice on where to access support, playgroups and advice once we are closed at this event.

Thank you to all those who have supported the Children’s Centre here in Mytchett over the past (almost!) 10 years and please do continue to use our services whilst they are here. If you are unsure of when different services will be coming to an end or have any questions with regards to the Centre closure, please contact us.

With love,

Vicki and Elaine.

Children's Centre's are an exciting new initiative as the next stage in the ongoing development of Sure Start Programmes.

The Children’s Centre programme is based on the concept that providing integrated education with childcare, family support and health services are key factors in achieving good outcomes for children and parents.

Many more new Centres are being planned by the local authority. To view information about all current Children's Centres in the area select the Other Centres link top right of the page.
